Forever beta reaches level 30 · a new dungeon and major class changes
Excavation Site opens in the Wetlands, Feral gets a new Energy tool and Warrior talents move again. Dungeon quest bonus experience also changes.
Forever’s beta has taken its next step: characters can now reach level 30, and the new Excavation Site dungeon is available in the Wetlands. Alongside that expansion, substantial Feral Druid and Warrior changes make last week’s build plans worth revisiting.
Blizzard’s October 1 development notes describe a new beta build, not a promise of final launch balance. Here is what we would focus on in the next testing session.
More levels, and a new expedition into the Wetlands
The notes list Excavation Site at levels 26–31. Razorfen Downs, marked 25+, and Uldaman, marked 30+, also become available. Those dungeon ranges do not raise the player level cap beyond 30.
The extra levels matter for more than access. A newly available ability or talent can change tanking, Mana management and sensible pull sizes more than a single equipment upgrade. Returning with a different group may tell you more about your class than treating one first visit as a final verdict.
Feral trades Tiger’s Fury for Shifting Power
The central addition for Cat Form is Shifting Power: the baseline version converts 55% of base Mana into 40 Energy on a 16-second cooldown. Effects that reduce shapeshifting costs also reduce its cost. Improved Shifting Power shortens the cooldown according to talent rank.
Tiger’s Fury and King of the Jungle are removed. This is a change to how Feral prepares its next attack cycle, not simply another button added to an unchanged toolkit. Test the Mana-to-Energy trade over a sustained encounter, rather than only a short fight that begins with full resources.
Bears receive changes too. Primal Bite generates roughly twice as much threat, while Swipe gains its corrected Attack Power scaling. Forms are immune to new Disarm effects, but shifting does not remove a Disarm applied beforehand or its damage penalty while that effect remains active.
Warrior gets new Fury choices and a more accessible Protection branch
Blizzard says an incorrect hit bonus prompted another Fury balance pass. Lingering Rage delays out-of-combat Rage decay. Furious Precision focuses a hit-chance choice on off-hand attacks, while Gore Drinker adds healing to subsequent melee attacks after particular abilities are used.
Prerequisites change as well: Flurry now follows Death Wish rather than Enrage. Whirlwind strikes with both weapons without requiring a talent point for that functionality. Several Protection utility talents move earlier in the tree, with the stated aim of making a secondary utility investment more practical for non-shield users.
There is an important source caveat. The notes give conflicting critical-strike Rage figures, first mentioning a 75% increase, then a move from 75% to 100%. The hit-chance bug also appears in both fixes and known issues. We are not using those inconsistencies to produce a precise damage or Rage forecast. Check the actual beta build and report any mismatch between its behaviour and the description.
Changes reach beyond those two classes
Fire Mage’s Hot Streak becomes Heating Up, and Combustion returns to three charges. Protection Paladin shifts block chance away from Redoubt and toward Holy Shield. Retribution’s Champion of the Light converts Intellect into Spell Damage at a reduced ratio; its incorrect healing tooltip is removed.
Priest’s Devouring Plague can correctly crit. A missed Rogue Expose Armor no longer consumes all combo points. Aggressive pet mode returns for Hunters and Warlocks. Renaming an effect, adjusting its numbers and fixing broken behaviour are different kinds of changes, even when they share a patch note.
The dungeon XP change is not a blanket 50% cut
Dungeon quests lose half of their extra experience above ordinary quest values. Blizzard is not saying that all dungeon experience, or every dungeon quest’s entire reward, has been halved.
Respawns are also accelerated for various creatures and objectives in areas including the Wetlands, Ashenvale and Duskwood. A useful assessment of levelling pace must consider time spent waiting, not just reward numbers.
Most PvP equipment and upgrade-token Honor prices rise by roughly 50%, while the Honor cap increases from 15,000 to 25,000. A larger cap is not automatically faster gearing when prices change too.
What to test next

First check removed talents, new prerequisites and changed abilities. Then repeat a comparable encounter and note what actually changes: threat, downtime, Mana or survival. One impressive critical hit is not a build evaluation.
Our classes and talents hub helps you explore the options. This news release does not update the calculators to the October 1 data. Check the source date shown by each calculator, especially for Feral and Warrior; the newer official notes take precedence.
Still deciding what to play? Our four-class comparison looks at Hunter, Druid, Priest and Warrior identities. The useful beta question is not yet which class wins a damage meter, but which one you want to play for the next ten levels.
