How to read these guides
Each guide covers five skill brackets: 1-75, 75-150, 150-225, 225-300 and 300-375. Crafting guides outline materials and recipe choices; gathering guides cover suitable areas and skill requirements. These are progression overviews, not complete shopping lists. Check recipe requirements and your realm's prices before buying materials.
Alchemy
Alchemy is a core profession for raid consumables: potions, elixirs, flasks and TBC specialization procs make it useful for both mains and alts.
Blacksmithing
Blacksmithing can be expensive to level, but its TBC specialization weapons and armor are valuable during early progression, especially for melee characters and those wearing plate or mail.
Enchanting
Enchanting creates gear upgrades and turns spare gear into materials. In TBC, ring enchants and shard conversions add value for your own character as well.
Engineering
Engineering offers bombs, gadgets, goggles, a mote extractor and TBC flying machines. Its utility is particularly useful in PvP and for some DPS roles.
Jewelcrafting
Introduced in TBC, Jewelcrafting supplies gems for socketed gear. Mining is a natural partner because Prospecting lets you turn ore into gems.
Leatherworking
Leatherworking provides drums, leg armor and crafted gear for TBC raids. It uses large amounts of leather, making Skinning a natural companion profession.
Tailoring
Tailoring turns looted cloth into bags and equipment. TBC adds valuable specialization cloth and caster sets, making it a useful choice for casters and alts.
Herbalism
Level Herbalism by gathering herbs in areas suited to your skill. Outland herbs supply Alchemy and raid consumables, and can also be sold to other players.
Mining
Mining supports three crafting professions and can make gold on its own. In TBC, Fel Iron, Adamantite and Khorium are key materials.
Skinning
Skinning is a straightforward gathering profession: kill beasts around the right level and collect the hides. It is the best pair for Leatherworking and a good gold source while leveling.
Cooking
Cooking makes food that restores health/mana and grants Well Fed stat buffs. In TBC it works best with Fishing, but meat and fish routes can be mixed.
Fishing
Fishing takes patience rather than a large supply of expensive materials. Your catch supports Cooking and some Alchemy recipes, or can be sold to other players.
First Aid
First Aid is an easy secondary profession that gives every class bandage healing. The TBC stage uses Runecloth and Netherweave Cloth.
Preparing for raids
Start with what you need for raids: consumables, enchants, gems, drums, spellthreads or crafted gear. If your main benefit comes at 350+, leave enough gold to reach it instead of overspending along the way.
Alt character
Pairing a gathering profession with a crafting profession can reduce auction house spending. If you mainly want an alt to earn gold, gathering is usually a safer starting point.
AH and materials
The guides show which materials you need at each stage. If a bracket is expensive, compare other recipes or places to gather materials before buying everything for 1-375 at once.
