How to read these guides

Each guide covers five skill brackets: 1-75, 75-150, 150-225, 225-300 and 300-375. Crafting guides outline materials and recipe choices; gathering guides cover suitable areas and skill requirements. These are progression overviews, not complete shopping lists. Check recipe requirements and your realm's prices before buying materials.

1-75 Apprentice
Fish in starting zones and use lures if your skill is low.
  • Keep Cooking in mind from the beginning.
  • You improve the skill by fishing, not by killing creatures.
75-150 Journeyman
Move to higher-level waters and keep lures with you.
  • If fish often get away, raise your effective fishing skill with a lure or fish in an easier area.
  • Fish in zones whose catches fit your Cooking route.
150-225 Expert
Mid-stage fish support Cooking and some Alchemy materials.
  • Check which book or trainer you need for the next skill tier.
  • Make use of spare time by fishing while waiting in a queue or for a raid to start.
225-300 Artisan
The late Classic stretch takes you to higher-level waters.
  • Contests and special gear can add value.
  • Fishing gear and lures reduce wasted time.
300-375 Master / Outland
Outland fish, pools and daily content form the TBC stage.
  • Old Man Barlo dailies and Terokkar fish can be valuable.
  • Cooking turns many of your catches into useful raid food.
