Black Temple and Mount Hyjal open August 28 — what Phase 3 changes in Anniversary

Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Phase 3 opens Black Temple, Mount Hyjal, Netherwing, epic gems, and Arena Season 3. Here is the schedule and practical preparation.

Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary reaches its next major transition when Phase 3 opens in Europe at 00:01 CEST on August 28. Black Temple and The Battle for Mount Hyjal join the raid calendar together, while the same phase also changes outdoor progression, gear optimization, and the timing of the PvP season.

For raid groups, the central point is simple: this is more than a single raid opening. Two very different raid environments arrive at the same time, so rosters, opening-night priorities, and consumable plans should be settled before launch.

Black Temple and Mount Hyjal define the new raid phase

Black Temple takes the raid into Illidan Stormrage's fortress. Mount Hyjal is built around the wave-based Battle for Mount Hyjal. Opening both at once creates a dense first week, with guilds deciding how to divide their time between progression, early farming, and multiple groups.

Blizzard's Phase 3 notes name both raids but do not prescribe one correct progression route. The practical answer depends on each guild's goals, raid nights, and readiness for the different demands of the encounters.

A useful opening-week checklist is therefore operational rather than theoretical:

  • confirm the main roster and substitutes before August 28
  • decide which raid gets the first night and when the group will switch
  • review tank, healer, dispel, and encounter assignments
  • finish important resistance, consumable, and profession preparation before launch night
  • leave room to change the route if the initial plan performs poorly on live realms

Netherwing and epic gems arrive in the same phase

Progression outside the raids is not an afterthought. Phase 3 opens the Netherwing daily faction and quest hub in Shadowmoon Valley. That creates a longer outdoor goal and gives players a reason to return after the first rush of launch week.

Epic gems also become part of the phase. Their importance will rise as new raid gear enters circulation and players optimize the sockets on their strongest items. That does not mean every gem must be bought at any first-night price. Unless immediate optimization is essential to a guild's progression target, it may be sensible to let material supply and Auction House pricing settle.

Haste and Destruction Potions were tested on the PTR

During the raid test, Blizzard said it was testing the addition of Haste Potions and Destruction Potions purchasable with Marks of Illidari earned in Phase 3 raids.

The qualification matters: the forum post describes a tested implementation, not an unconditional promise that the exact system will reach live realms. Raiders should verify the final live notes before building their entire consumable plan around it. If the tested design ships, Marks of Illidari will become part of the ongoing raid-consumable economy rather than serving only a narrow exchange purpose.

Arena Season 2 ends before the raid launch

The PvP schedule moves separately from the raids. Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Arena Season 2 ends in Europe at 22:00 CEST on August 18. Arena Season 3 begins with the European weekly reset on September 2, when Season 2 rewards are also distributed.

That creates a defined transition around Phase 3. PvP players should complete their Season 2 goals before the cutoff rather than assuming rating can still be repaired after the raids open. Season 3 gear and progression begin with the following week's reset.

European schedule at a glance

  • August 18 at 22:00 CEST: Arena Season 2 ends in Europe
  • August 28 at 00:01 CEST: Phase 3, Black Temple, and Mount Hyjal open
  • September 2 weekly reset: Arena Season 3 begins in Europe and Season 2 rewards are distributed

These times come from Blizzard's European posts. Maintenance or a last-minute technical change can still affect practical access, so the official service status remains worth watching on launch night.

What still needs to be watched?

The important remaining sources are the final live notes and any changes made after PTR feedback. The Haste and Destruction Potion implementation deserves a specific recheck. The first live raid days will also show whether encounter tuning matches the test build or needs hotfixes.

The shape of Phase 3 is already clear. Anniversary is moving into the Black Temple and Mount Hyjal era, Netherwing adds a new daily progression path, and the third PvP season follows shortly after the raid launch. The most useful preparation now happens in the guild calendar, not at the portal on opening night.
