Blizzard changes Midnight trinkets · healer buffs and a Puzzle Box nerf

Blizzard is giving players a week’s notice of trinket changes. Gear comparisons will need to account for the updated values before drawing conclusions.

Midnight gear choices are approaching another checkpoint. Blizzard’s September 15 announcement schedules trinket tuning for September 22 weekly maintenance. Selected examples include 75% more healing for Preternatural Antivenom, 40% more healing for Seed of Radiant Hope with its cooldown reduced from 1.5 minutes to one minute, and 25% less Mastery from Algeth’ar Puzzle Box. These are highlights, not the complete change list.

Time to consider, not a reason to panic

These changes should not be treated as already live. Blizzard says the week’s notice is intended to inform player decisions and allow feedback on this unusually late tuning pass. The post does not establish an exact European activation time.

Our advice is to separate this week’s experience from the upcoming assessment. If an item currently works for your group, a headline alone is not a reason to discard it. Equally, an older comparison could mislead a future purchase or upgrade decision if it still uses the pre-change values.

More healing does not automatically mean a better trinket

For a healer, timing is often the interesting question: does an effect arrive when someone needs help, or does it fill a meter in an already safe moment? That is why we would not turn percentage changes directly into a best-in-slot list.

Useful comparisons should distinguish item level, encounter damage patterns and how much of an effect can actually be used. An occasional benefit at a crucial moment may be more valuable than a steady addition that does not address the group’s problem. This is our editorial approach to evaluation, not a published simulation result.

Preternatural Antivenom also appeared in our earlier hotfix coverage. That fix and this newly announced tuning pass should be kept separate by date.

The Puzzle Box percentage is not your character’s damage percentage

A reduction to a Mastery effect does not mean the same percentage reduction in total character damage. Your specialization, other equipment and ability timing need to be considered separately.

We would wait for updated calculations or post-maintenance gameplay data before making a final replacement decision. When comparing two items, record their item levels and the settings used. Otherwise, too many things may change at once for the result to tell you much about the trinket itself.

What should you check after maintenance?

First, confirm that your comparison tool or guide uses the new values. Then look at the benefit that matters to your playstyle, rather than only an item’s overall ranking. Not every player needs the same effect in the same situation.

Our Midnight era page collects guides and news. The separate raid adjustments are covered in our Venomous Abyss tuning article. The trinket announcement is not the same update as those boss changes.
