RP-PvP is coming to Forever at launch; name reservation is the next target

Blizzard adds RP-PvP for Forever’s launch. What changes for your group, and what remains uncertain about Early Name Reservation on October 27?

Roleplayers no longer have to choose between a roleplaying community and open-world PvP. Blizzard is adding the RP-PvP ruleset to WoW Forever for launch. Aggrend announced the change on October 22 after the team reconsidered player feedback. Read the original announcement.

The timing matters for groups still deciding where to begin. Early Name Reservation is approaching, and an additional option may change where friends and guilds want to settle. Beyond securing a character name, the more consequential choice is who that character can actually play with.

Launch is confirmed; name reservation remains a target

The announcement contains two commitments with different levels of certainty. RP-PvP is coming at launch. Having it ready for Early Name Reservation on October 27 is a goal the team is working towards. The updated official ruleset guide also describes reservation availability as a plan.

Keep that distinction in mind when preparing. If RP-PvP is your group’s first choice, check availability again on reservation day. Creating a character under another ruleset should not be treated as a temporary parking space on the assumption that you can simply move it into the desired community later.

European reservation opens October 27 at 18:00 CET, or 19:00 in Finland, after the clocks change. It requires an eligible purchase on the specific WoW account and allows three characters in total across rulesets during early reservation. Our reservation times and requirements article has a fuller preparation checklist.

A new option can resolve an old compromise

RP-PvP brings together two preferences. Your character can belong to a story and a community, while the journey to the next village can become an adventure shaped by other players. An encounter with the opposing faction might give a guild outing its memorable moment without anyone having arranged it beforehand.

That is our interpretation of the option’s appeal, rather than a guarantee about the quality of every evening. The same unpredictability can interrupt a quiet questing route. Friends should discuss whether they want that risk in their everyday play or prefer to reserve PvP for separately planned sessions.

Roleplaying does not mean the same thing to everyone, either. One player wants to stay in character, another joins occasional events, and a third mainly enjoys the atmosphere. Talking about those expectations before character creation helps more than simply selecting the same menu option.

Friends need to agree on a shared ruleset

Blizzard’s updated guide places dungeon and raid grouping within the same ruleset. Characters cannot freely hop between rulesets, and Horde and Alliance groups remain separate.

The practical order is straightforward: agree on a ruleset and faction first, then choose individual classes and names. Otherwise, a successful reservation could leave someone with a character that cannot join the dungeon evening everyone had planned.

The RP-PvP addition does not settle every detail of the new option. For example, the announcement does not explain how the ordinary PvP ruleset’s one-faction character restriction relates to RP-PvP characters. We are not inferring a shared lock or an exemption. If your plan depends on playing both factions, wait for an explicit explanation.

What should you do before October 27?

Bring the new option into your group’s discussion now. Agree on a first choice and what to do if RP-PvP is not yet visible when reservation opens. Prepare a few acceptable names as well: access to reservation does not guarantee the particular name you want.

The decision means a combination requested by the community will be part of Forever’s beginning. The benefit is concrete: players have another way to choose a shared home. Make that choice around the evenings you actually want to spend together.
