Forever’s most important choice comes before your first quest
Starting Forever with friends? Blizzard has clarified ruleset, faction and language restrictions. Here is what your group should agree on before creating characters.
Your group’s first evening in Azeroth deserves a little planning before anyone perfects their character’s appearance. Class choices are an easy conversation to get excited about. An equally useful question is less glamorous: what does everyone actually want from a night of playing together?
What has Blizzard clarified?
Blizzard’s September 21 clarification requires matching rulesets and factions for dungeon and raid groups. PvP characters are limited to one faction. The online-language preference has a 24-hour change cooldown. Hardcore arrives after launch.

Rulesets themselves are not this week’s reveal. They were already introduced during the BlizzCon Deep Dive. The useful news is the more concrete explanation of choices made during character creation.
Have the conversation before the opening evening
Our advice is to write a short shared starting plan: preferred playstyle, faction and intended playtime. A friend arriving late should not have to reconstruct the decision from dozens of chat messages.
Talk about what makes a good session, too. Does one person want to explore quests, another enjoy competition, and a third spend time developing their character’s story? None is the wrong answer. A compromise is easier to reach over coffee than when everyone is tired and staring at a login screen.
If you are returning to a guild, check its plans with an organiser. The familiar Discord channel may still be there, but that alone does not tell you where its members intend to settle this time.
A language preference is not a group plan
Include your intended language in that shared message, but do not leave all communication to the game’s automatic systems. Agree on somewhere to arrange invitations, sessions and requests for help. Finding your friends should still be straightforward if you log in after the others have headed into their first dungeon.
That is our practical suggestion, not an announced Blizzard matchmaking feature. Nor do we read this announcement as a resolution of the player reports about beta layer changes. Character choices and server behaviour are different questions.
Start with the people, then add the finishing touches
A good opening evening does not require a perfect optimisation spreadsheet. It needs everyone to understand what the others want to do. Once the shared plan is clear, choosing classes, names and equipment can remain the enjoyable part of preparation.
