Blizzard quietly brings the official Armory to WoW Classic after seven years

Checking a Classic character's gear no longer requires logging into the game or relying on a third-party database. Blizzard's own Armory now searches characters and guilds from World of Warcraft Classic, Burning Crusade Classic and Mists of Pandaria Classic. The service was discovered working on August 27 without a dedicated Blizzard news announcement.

Three Classic versions and four regions

Alongside modern World of Warcraft, the Armory's game selector now includes three Classic branches:

• World of Warcraft Classic, where searches include Era, Hardcore and Season of Discovery realms.
• Burning Crusade Classic.
• Mists of Pandaria Classic.

Each Classic version supports Americas & Oceania, Europe, Korea and Taiwan. Public search works without a Battle.net login, but the correct version and region must be selected before entering a name.

What do character and guild searches show?

A character profile can show the name, level, class, realm, guild, equipped items, item level, stats, specialization and talent data, and a PvP tab. Mists of Pandaria Classic profiles also include an Achievements tab. Guild search leads to roster and message-of-the-day views.

Signing in with Battle.net provides a shortcut to characters on your own account. A login is not required to browse other public characters and guilds.

In spot checks, search appeared to expect the complete name. If a partial name returns nothing, enter the full character or guild name and verify the game version, region and realm.

Era, Hardcore and Season of Discovery share the Classic selector

The World of Warcraft Classic option is not limited to Era realms. Search results also included Hardcore and Season of Discovery characters. Season of Discovery rune effects appeared in item data, but the service does not present them as a dedicated, clearly organized rune view.

That makes the Armory useful for recruitment, gear comparison and checking a character's public profile. It is not a real-time combat or raid tracker: profiles carry a separate last-updated timestamp.

The first version still has rough edges

Players on Blizzard's forum have reported incomplete specialization or talent data and buffed stats being captured. These are early user observations, not proof that every character is affected.

The Armory is therefore useful as a discovery and comparison tool, but any talent or stat that affects a roster decision should still be verified in game.

Blizzard made a different choice in 2019

When WoW Classic originally returned, Blizzard said Classic would not receive Armory profile pages at launch. The stated goal was to preserve the original game's social practice of inspecting another character face to face. Seven years later, official web profiles are now available for Classic versions as well.

The quiet rollout does not confirm Classic+ or another new game version. Blizzard has not connected the Armory to its BlizzCon plans, and no dedicated feature announcement was found by the review cutoff.
