Midnight Season 2’s major hotfix pass changes Ula’tek, trinkets and Tidal Spark Dust

The first days of Midnight Season 2 quickly produced a major hotfix pass. Blizzard changed encounters in the Venomous Abyss, retuned 23 trinkets, fixed Tidal Spark Dust acquisition and warned players about an Aqirbane Reliquary redesign arriving with EU maintenance on August 26.

This is not one blanket nerf. Some changes ease progression, others repair mechanics that behaved incorrectly, and the item changes can materially reshape gearing comparisons.

Heroic Ula’tek becomes more consistent

Blight Vein damage was reduced on Heroic. Grasping Fangs now targets three players per side regardless of raid size, while Volatile Purge scales with group size on Normal and Heroic. Its radius is largest with ten players and gradually shrinks toward a 30-player raid.

Unintended Spectral Coils scaling outside Mythic was fixed. Forty percent of the raid is now required to reduce its damage to the minimum, and Heroic timing is more consistent. Blizzard also corrected Blight Vein's stack-based damage on Heroic and Mythic. The result should be more predictable, although not every line is a direct nerf.

Venomous Abyss raid bugs are removed

Vashnik the Malignant received several important fixes. Stygian Burst covered a larger area than intended, one wave could strike the same player repeatedly, and Harpoon could make a player fall through the playspace. Shrouded Venom durability is now divided into 40% health and 60% shields.

The Coiled Altar could fail to enter phase three after its intermission, while players could fall through the world in the Serpent Warren. The raid campaign quest should also complete for players who were dead when the final encounter ended.

The balance of 23 trinkets changes

The largest gearing section retunes 23 trinkets. Several weak damage and healing effects received substantial increases:

• Kyrakka’s Searing Embers: healing +80% and damage +50%
• Tumor of the Swarm: healing +40% and damage +15%
• Mycolic Medicine and Preternatural Antivenom: healing +30%
• Unstable Felheart Crystal: absorb +30%
• First Mate’s Shellward: damage +25%
• Font of Venomous Rage: damage +20%
• several other damage trinkets: +15%

In the other direction, Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag lost 29% of its secondary-stat effects, Gaze of the Alnseer lost 20% primary stat and Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel lost 15% absorb. Crucible of Erratic Energies lost 15% Critical Strike and Vaelgor’s Final Stare lost 10% Mastery.

These values can reorder rankings, but uptime, item level, specialization cooldowns and encounter length still matter. Simulations and class-specific comparisons need post-hotfix data.

Tidal Spark Dust acquisition is corrected

Blizzard raised the base Tidal Spark Dust cap from one to three. “Trailing Xal’atath” and “Midnight: World Tour” should now award the material correctly, while a reward-display issue involving Spark of Tides in Sparks of War quests was also fixed.

The official notes describe current behavior but do not promise automatic retroactive compensation for every previously missing reward. Players whose total does not match completed quests should verify their quest log and current inventory before spending more materials.

Aqirbane Reliquary changes on August 26

With EU maintenance on August 26, Aqirbane Reliquary will grant a smaller amount of every secondary stat instead of a large amount of Critical Strike. Its first on-equip effect remains unchanged.

The second effect will increase one random secondary stat while reducing the other three; it previously always increased Critical Strike. That makes the result less predictable and may change which specializations value it most. Existing simulations and loot recommendations should be rerun after the new version is live.

Class fixes can alter real performance without a headline buff

Marksmanship Hunter could receive Precise Shots twice with a particular Rapid Fire timing. Elemental Shaman's Master of the Elements did not correctly increase Earthquake damage, and multiple Affliction Warlock interactions involving Wither, Withering Bolt and the Venomous Abyss set were malfunctioning.

Restoration Druid, Holy Priest, Havoc Demon Hunter and other specializations also received functional fixes. These changes may not look like percentage buffs, but they can immediately alter logs, rotations and talent value.

What should players do now?

Raid teams should update Heroic Ula’tek notes, especially group-size assumptions for Volatile Purge and Spectral Coils. Trinket comparisons should be rerun, particularly for items with the largest adjustments.

Tidal Spark Dust totals should not be judged by the previous cap, while Aqirbane Reliquary is best evaluated using data from the version that goes live on August 26. Season 2’s gearing and encounter landscape has already shifted during its first week.
