Familiar races, new abilities · choosing a character in Forever

An old favourite race is not automatically the same choice in Forever as it was in Classic. Blizzard’s September 22 race and class preview gives players a reason to look again.

We covered Skyborne differences in a separate article. Here the focus is on familiar races.

Four abilities worth a closer look

• Orc · Shatter Curse: curse and Bane immunity, plus reduced magical damage taken, for eight seconds.
• Gnome · Eureka!: cheaper next three spells or abilities, with 10% more damage or healing.
• Night Elf · Elune’s Light: 10% more critical chance for fifteen seconds.
• Tauren · Cultivation: bonus herbs that do not require Herbalism to gather.

This does not establish a reliable ranking. The preview leaves cooldowns and practical conditions unspecified. An ability description tells you what it does, not how often it will decide your game.

Your class preference may settle the question first

Featured combinations include Dwarf Shaman, Undead Paladin, Human Hunter and Gnome Priest. Check the complete original table before committing to a character.

Our preferred order is class, shared faction with friends, then racial fine-tuning. Otherwise it is easy to optimise a character you do not actually want to play.

Picture one of your own sessions

Make the comparison concrete. Do you usually quest alone, play with a few friends or join organised raids? Are you more interested in PvP or unhurried exploration?

For each appealing ability, we would write down one practical question. When would I remember to press it? Does its timing sound enjoyable? Would I prefer another active tool or fewer buttons to manage?

That process will not produce one winner for everybody. It may still be more useful than comparing disconnected percentages.

We have not tested these abilities ourselves. This article does not calculate damage per minute, declare a PvP winner or promise unchanged launch tuning.
