Horde or Alliance? For a prospective Skyborne, the question goes beyond friends and favourite cities. Blizzard's new preview makes the practical differences easier to compare.

Shaman or Mage settles one choice

Both sides offer Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid. Horde Windshapers also get Shaman; Alliance High Order get Mage. You choose your faction at character creation.

Our advice is to start with the class, not the smallest numerical bonus. If a Skyborne shaman is your goal, much of the decision is already made. If your whole group wants to start together, talk before everyone becomes attached to a different character idea.

Movement speed or regeneration?

Horde's Skysight adds 10% running speed. Alliance's Read Ley Line grants 100% increased Health and Mana regeneration through activating a ley line.

Both share Walk on Air, a ten-second downward glide; Wind Blessed, 1% Haste; and Elemental Insight, 5% extra damage to Elementals.

These numbers do not establish a winner. The preview leaves cooldowns and some conditions unspecified. Regeneration is not a full heal, and gliding is not free flight. We would not declare either side the best choice for PvP or raids on this evidence.

Pick a character you want to play

Consider the whole character: how it looks in motion, whether you enjoy the animations and whether the class feels right. That is our recommendation, not an efficiency ranking. The most interesting beta experiment might be something you would not normally play.

How we would prepare for a group start

Agree on factions and classes first, then rulesets and a shared language choice. Save your character ideas and leave the final optimisation for later. Starting together is more enjoyable than discovering that everyone planned a different adventure.
