World of Warcraft: Forever · Azeroth finally gets a fresh start

The wait for Classic+ has a name. Forever brings new places, stories and class changes to original Azeroth. Here is the announcement, the schedule and what remains unanswered.

What if you could return to Azeroth without already knowing what waits around the next bend? Not just another server and another run along the same route, but a familiar world whose story could take a different turn. World of Warcraft: Forever is now a real, announced game. The idea players have long hoped for under the name Classic+ finally has a name and concrete features, unveiled at BlizzCon.

Blizzard intends Forever as a permanent option alongside modern WoW and Classic, not their replacement. Blizzard's announcement roundup.

The global launch is November 4, 2026, at 23:00 UTC / 15:00 PST, or November 5 at 01:00 EET in Finland. Base access requires a WoW subscription or game time; upgrade packs are optional. Official launch time and access terms.

Classic+ has a name. What exactly is Forever?

The story begins after Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. Players return to the original continents, reach level 60 and continue through new stories, experiences and updates. The official starting point.

PC Gamer, which attended a preview briefing, describes a version branching from WoW's first year. Its report says the level cap remains 60 for the foreseeable future. That is not an eternal guarantee that no system can ever change. PC Gamer's announcement report.

For us, the important distinction is simple: preserving a familiar world does not mean freezing it. The most interesting version of Classic+ is not an endless series of identical beginnings. It is a world you could stay in without everything interesting eventually moving somewhere else.

The Classic+ label alone will not make Forever work. What matters is whether its new adventures feel at home in this Azeroth. Can the old world accommodate new stories without losing its character?

Zephras Isle, Riverglades and Mount Hyjal

Blizzard introduces three zones:

  • Zephras Isle: the Skyborne's floating homeland.
  • Riverglades: green Eastern Kingdoms hills and ruined keeps.
  • Mount Hyjal: old and new threats.

Official zone descriptions and landscape videos.

PC Gamer's on-site coverage records Blizzard's promise of more than 1,000 new quests. Opening Ceremony live coverage.

A quest count does not tell us how good those quests are. We are particularly interested in whether they create alternative routes. Could familiar levels feel different on a second character? Might something at the edge of an old zone tempt us off the usual path?

Mount Hyjal is an especially enticing name here. Above all, we hope it brings a sense of exploration. New content deserves to be judged by its activities and stories, not simply the amount of land added to a map. An impressive mountainside remains scenery if there is no reason to stop beneath it.

Skyborne and new race/class combinations

The new elven Skyborne follow Windshaper (Horde) or High Order (Alliance) paths. Blizzard also names Forsaken Paladins and Dwarf Shamans, with changes across every class and specialization. Blizzard's character and class overview.

There are two different attractions here. A new race offers a new identity and starting point, but class changes also matter to anyone returning to an old favourite. For many players, the biggest question is not which new character they can create, but how their familiar class will feel.

We are not naming winners, best racials or a future raid meta. Announced reworks cannot replace testing abilities, talents and the experience of actually playing. If Forever makes more playstyles worthwhile without flattening the differences between classes, that would offer Classic players considerably more than one spectacular trailer ability.

Nine dungeons and two raids: a new evening with the old group

Illustration. A new encounter is exciting because the whole group does not yet know the answer.

PC Gamer's preview report lists nine new dungeons and two new raids, with new content during leveling as well as at the cap. PC Gamer's content figures.

Blizzard's gameplay trailer confirms 10- and 20-player raids around 1:22. This establishes group sizes, not flexible scaling. Raids in the official trailer.

The appeal to a regular raid group is easy to understand. Familiar teamwork could remain, without everyone having memorised the evening before the first pull. The best moment might not be a new item, but the brief conversation in which the group genuinely tries to work out what just happened.

Those numbers do not answer every other question. They are not a complete opening schedule, boss list or promise that every new instance opens on the first evening. Nor are we importing raid names from the Eternal rumour into Forever's confirmed content.

Our hope is that dungeons become more than gearing stops to rush through. A good five-player adventure can fill an entire evening. Its value does not disappear because your character still has levels to gain.

Legacy, Camping and a world worth staying in

Legacy rewards character progress with account-wide benefits. Blizzard also announces Camping, profession and Honor updates, and improved environments and lighting. Official systems overview.

What these promises mean will become clear through play. We think account-wide progress could make another character more appealing if previous adventures provide the right amount of help. It could also go too far if a new journey feels solved before it starts. The right balance is about more than a faster experience bar.

Camping raises another interesting question: will it create places and situations where players meet outside queues for their next activity? The appearance of a tent or campfire cannot answer that alone. A system should give us a natural reason to pause, not turn stopping into another daily chore.

These are our expectations, not promised Camping features or Legacy rewards. We should not fill in mechanics from imagination just because a system's name sounds familiar.

PvP and visuals: what the gameplay trailer confirms

The official trailer confirms a new Darkspear Islands battleground, new reputations and rewards, and an SD/HD character-model toggle. The battleground appears around 1:48, the model toggle around 2:06. Blizzard's gameplay trailer.

A character-model toggle does not mean that every visual update to the world can be disabled. A battleground name does not establish its rules, match size or balance. These are real, inspectable trailer features, but there is no reason to invent the missing instruction manual around them.

Why this did not come out of nowhere

On May 27, 2025, the Classic team said Season of Discovery development was slowing as it moved towards its next major project within original WoW's design space, informed by the season's lessons. Forever was not named. The Classic team's update.

Season of Discovery had already provided a practical experiment: class-changing runes, an initial level cap of 25 and Blackfathom Deeps reworked as a ten-player raid. The original season announcement.

That makes this direction a more useful way to assess Forever than treating it as an isolated surprise name. New Classic-based content has already been tried. The interesting questions now concern what those experiments taught Blizzard: what stays, what gets rebuilt and what needs time to grow.

Whether Season of Discovery worked for you does not determine Forever's fate. It does, however, give you useful questions to bring into beta. Does your class still feel like yours? Is the world interesting when you are not earning experience as quickly as possible? Does your group have a reason to return next week?

What about the Eternal rumour? Was it right?

The list examined in yesterday's Eternal investigation was unverified. We can now compare it with the announcement without retrospectively declaring the entire package a genuine leak.

  • Name: the announced game is Forever, not Eternal.
  • Date: the rumoured December 8 launch does not match November.
  • Zones: the rumour's seven-zone list differs from the three introduced here.
  • Similarities: Skyborne and the dungeon and raid counts resemble the announcement. That does not confirm the remaining claims.

There is no need to turn this into a guessing game about the author's identity. The useful conclusion for readers is simpler: check each claim separately. One correct name, number or theme does not automatically validate the rest of a list.

Classic+ also has its place. It describes a longstanding player wish and helps explain the announcement's reception. But the official product name and confirmed terms come from Blizzard, not the title of a rumour thread.

What does it cost, and how do you get into beta?

The main upgrade differences:

  • Skyborne Heroic Pack: Skyborne, the Zephras starting experience and early name reservation.
  • Skyborne Epic Pack: adds beta and 30 days of game time from launch.
  • Warcraft Forever Collection: adds Warcraft III: Reforged and Forsaken Kingdom.

Blizzard lists beta for September 17 to October 21, and name reservation for October 27 to November 3, for up to three characters. Exact local opening times for these windows remain unconfirmed here. Full pack contents and terms.

A free beta opt-in offers a chance of an invitation. Register on Blizzard's website.

The physical Collector's Edition includes a Collection code, a 13-inch dwarf-and-bear statue, mousepad, art prints, pins and journal. Credit for earlier digital purchases depends on the product and upgrade path. Collector's Edition contents and credit guidance.

Our advice is to decide what you actually want to play first. If the new race and beta do not interest you, there is no need to hurry into an extra purchase on announcement excitement alone. If Skyborne are the reason you want to return, check that access carefully. We are not publishing unverified euro prices or converting a US report's dollar figure into a supposed Finnish store price.

What do we still want to know?

The announcement answers whether Forever exists. It does not replace playing it. Before agreeing on long-term plans for an entire guild, we would want answers to at least these questions:

  • What are the realm options and exact character-transfer rules?
  • How will gear progression and older content remain relevant across updates?
  • How do classes, talents and racials work in practice?
  • When do dungeons and raids open, and what are their rewards?
  • What will Legacy, Camping and Honor actually ask of players?

A pre-announcement feature list is not an answer. Blizzard's Forever Deep Dive takes place on Sunday, September 13, at 17:00 UTC, covering design principles and systems. That is 20:00 in Finland. Official panel information.

The biggest promise is not a new map, but a new first evening

In our view, the best possible Forever does not need to declare everything old a mistake. A familiar class, world and group of friends can be precisely what makes a new adventure appealing.

The new part would be the moment when nobody in the group knows everything yet. Someone notices a side path. Someone else wants to see where it leads. The evening's plan changes, and that does not have to count as a failure.

That is why this announcement feels significant. Blizzard now has an opportunity to make original Azeroth more than somewhere we visit to remember the past. It could become somewhere we make new memories. A trailer can promise that feeling. Only the game can show whether it lasts beyond the first weekend.
