A fresh start in Azeroth · prepare for the WoW Forever beta
Beta access, friend codes and your first test session. Prepare for WoW Forever with a practical guide to confirmed details and open questions.
A return to the original Azeroth makes it tempting to plan the whole journey before taking the first step. For the beta, a smaller goal is enough: get access sorted, try a class that interests you and discover what an evening with friends feels like. You do not need every answer on day one.
Blizzard announces September 17 as the Forever beta start date. We have not verified an opening hour or the corresponding date in Finland. This preparation guide was checked on September 16. It is not an announcement that the servers are open.
Check access before choosing a name
Blizzard’s upgrade comparison includes beta access with the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection. It is not among the Heroic pack’s listed benefits. Check the product you own and its terms, rather than relying on the word Forever in your purchase history.
The physical Collector’s Edition announcement says beta-code redemption instructions arrive by email. Redemption requires a WoW game account; an account already granted access cannot redeem another code. These are Collector’s Edition instructions, not a description of how every digital purchase is delivered.
For a digital purchase, we would check the Battle.net account used. For a physical Collector’s Edition, we would check the order email and code redemption instructions. If an expected code is missing, check spam folders and contact the seller’s support with your order number. Do not post codes or order details in a public thread. This is practical advice, not a promise of instant access activation.
This section describes purchase entitlements, not an exhaustive list of ways Blizzard may grant beta access.
A friend code is not a beta invitation
This is an easy distinction to miss. Blizzard’s terms place Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes in November 4–11, with email delivery beginning October 20. The 30 days of game time included with Epic Pack and Forever Collection are added to your account starting November 4.
Do not plan a friend’s beta evening around a launch invitation. Ask the simpler question: do both of our accounts have beta access? A shared order or a list of benefits in one bundle does not answer that by itself.
Nor does this settle whether the beta separately requires an active subscription. The announcements we checked are not clear enough on that point. Check the current beta-specific requirement before buying game time solely for the test.
A date is not an opening time
The written purchase terms give a beta window of September 17–October 21, 2026. The upgrade announcement labels it PST, while the Collector’s Edition article uses PDT. Neither provides a beta opening hour verified for this guide.
We therefore will not turn the date into a guessed Finnish evening or overnight start. The full game’s launch hour is not automatically the beta’s opening hour either. Leave your first session flexible instead of organizing the whole group around an unconfirmed time.
Give your group one small goal

Can you play at the same time, and do you want to read the quests or move quickly? For the first evening, that matters more than a final raid composition.
We would agree on one short session and one question: is there a pace here that we want to return to? If somebody cannot get in immediately, everyone else does not need to decide their character for them.
Our group-finding article covers the background of Forever’s group plans. In the beta, check which choices and features are actually available in that build. An announced launch feature is not a guarantee that it will be enabled in the first test.
Choose three things to test
This is our editorial test plan, not Blizzard’s promised beta content:
- The feel of a familiar class. Try ordinary combat before committing to a complete talent build. Does the character feel natural? When do you find yourself waiting or searching for a button?
- The clarity of one quest chain. Read the instructions and try to follow them. If you get lost, note what information was missing. One map marker is not enough to judge the entire quest design.
- Playing together, if available. Can you find each other, understand what the other person is doing and keep a shared objective? If suitable content is not open, save this test for another session.
You will leave with more than a level number. Compare those observations with the previously outlined Forever systems without confusing a design plan with its present implementation.
Useful feedback describes an event
“It doesn’t work” is an understandable first reaction, but it is difficult to reproduce. Write a short chain of events instead:
Location or quest → your action → expected result → actual result → whether it happened again.
Add your class and level, and the build identifier if it is displayed. A screenshot can help, but crop out private messages and account information. Use the feedback channel provided by the beta and follow its instructions.
Separate a preference from a bug, too. “I dislike this wait” can be valuable feedback even when nothing is technically broken. Explain how the waiting changed the way you played.
What are we leaving open?
We are not promising a preload date, installation size, opening level cap or transfer of beta characters into the live game without confirmation of those details. Do not treat the test as a guaranteed head start for November.
The best preparation is straightforward: understand your access, agree on a flexible time and choose something you want to see for yourself. Leave room for a surprise as well. A fresh start loses something if that first walk becomes a checklist.
Our Forever era hub brings together news and class content. The September 17 developer Q&A preview is also a useful place to start if you want to follow answers before your own session.
