WoW housing gets cheaper: give old recipes a second look
Patch 12.1.5 cuts material and lumber requirements for older decor recipes. Plan your crafting and claim the golden Grrgle Twitch reward.
If the next room in your house is waiting on an expensive crafting list, this is a useful moment to pause. Patch 12.1.5 reduces the material requirements of crafted decor from every pre-Midnight expansion’s professions. The update arrives on October 13 in North America and October 14 in Europe.
It is a reason to reopen an older character’s profession book. A golden Grrgle Twitch reward starts in the same week, offering a different addition to the house. Together, the two announcements raise a practical question: what do you actually want to build next?
Lumber requirements are falling too
Blizzard’s Chimes says the reductions cover both ordinary reagents and lumber. There is no single percentage applying to everything; the size of the reduction varies by recipe. Midnight’s own recipes received similar changes in 12.1, with older expansions following now.
Material requirements and auction-house prices are different things, however. A smaller recipe does not guarantee that every ingredient or finished item immediately becomes cheaper. Supply and other players’ purchases still influence the prices you see.
Our suggestion is to delay a large production batch until you can inspect the updated recipe in the game. Making one essential piece now can be perfectly reasonable if it completes your design. Checking first becomes more useful when you are about to make dozens of copies.

Start with a room, rather than a collection
Cheaper crafting makes a long shopping list tempting. A more satisfying starting point can be one corner with a clear purpose: an inn fireplace, a work desk or a small seating area. List the missing pieces only after choosing the space.
The Pandaren Fireplace shown in Blizzard’s earlier profession overview is an example of an item that could set the mood for an entire room. That older overview’s reagent quantities should not become your shopping list for the new patch. Use the picture for inspiration and the updated profession book for the current requirements.

You can prepare without making a large purchase. Check what is already in the bank, select the recipes you want and find out which of your characters can make them. After the update, work out what is genuinely missing. Otherwise, the saving can disappear into speculative purchases for every project you might eventually start.
There is another appealing possibility here: an old profession can produce something you see whenever you return home. For someone who enjoys gathering and making things, that gives a neglected character’s skills a purpose beyond occupying a slot on a character-selection screen.
It also makes a smaller project easier to finish. A completed corner with a consistent theme may be more enjoyable than a growing pile of unrelated items. The recipe changes provide an opportunity; deciding what the house needs is still the interesting part.
A golden Grrgle joins the Twitch rewards
The Cuddly Gold-Colored Grrgle requires four hours of eligible viewing. The campaign runs from October 13 at 10 a.m. PDT to November 3 at 10 a.m. PST. In Finland, both boundaries fall at 8 p.m. despite the daylight-saving change between them.
Connect Twitch and Battle.net, watch eligible WoW streams, then claim the reward in Twitch’s Drops inventory. Watching alone does not complete the claim. Delivery in the game can take up to 24 hours.

This is a decor item for modern WoW, unavailable in Classic games. Using it requires game time and access to Midnight’s Housing feature.
A sensible sequence for the week is to check your account connection before watching, plan the house’s next small project, and compare crafting requirements after your region receives the update. You can keep designing while leaving a large batch of materials untouched for a little longer.
