Midnight: Eclipse brings the final showdown with Xal’atath

The Worldcore raid, Midnight’s Edge and a fresh Mythic+ season: Eclipse sets up Midnight’s finale. Plus what the first glimpse of The Last Titan actually tells us.

The chase after Xal’atath finally has a clear destination. Midnight’s 12.2 update, Eclipse, takes the fight deep into Azeroth, while giving dungeon groups another reason to plan their next season together. Announced at BlizzCon on September 12, this is part of modern WoW, not the newly revealed Forever. Blizzard’s announcement roundup.

The Mantle Vault and Worldcore: going deeper

The new zone is The Mantle Vault, with crystalline Thraegar allies and the Deepskar Empire. The Worldcore is an eight-boss raid ending with Xal’atath. The separate Gearhold lair houses the azerite bat Noctinaxx. Blizzard’s feature recap.

For us, the interesting question is less the boss count than whether the ending feels earned. A long-running antagonist needs a memorable encounter. For a guild, that can be a good shared ambition: finish this story with the same people who followed it together. The announcement’s atmosphere cannot tell us the tactics, tuning or gear requirements, though.

Midnight’s Edge is more than a final-boss drop

The legendary Midnight’s Edge is a caster dagger, not the Blade of the Black Empire. Clearing the raid is only one step towards obtaining it. Blizzard’s weapon description.

That distinction matters before a raid starts discussing loot promises. We would not pick next season’s main solely around the dagger yet. Its acquisition process and eligibility come first. This is not a promise that your first clear hands you a completed legendary weapon.

Eight dungeons for Season 3

The panel coverage and Blizzard’s list identify this Mythic+ pool:

  • Thraegar’s Stand
  • The Underrot
  • Iron Docks
  • Sanguine Depths
  • The Stonecore
  • Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr
  • Magisters’ Terrace
  • Maisara Cavern

The three-boss Thraegar’s Stand is new. Returning dungeons are being updated, so a route remembered from years ago may need work. Season 3 follows Eclipse’s launch. MassivelyOP’s panel report.

A new top 5% reward tier joins the seasonal goals. Both top 1% and top 5% eligibility will use rankings within your specialization. Blizzard’s reward conditions.

Our take: comparing yourself with your own spec is a more interesting personal target than a single all-class cutoff. That does not solve group-finding problems or guarantee balance. It also would not make sense to treat a current-season rating as next season’s confirmed reward threshold.

The Last Titan got a glimpse, not a full reveal

More information about The Last Titan is coming early in 2027, after Eclipse’s events. The teaser is not a complete expansion announcement. Blizzard positions Midnight’s conclusion as the lead-in to the final part of the Worldsoul Saga. The official Last Titan preview.

We would keep that separate from rumor lists. A teaser does not confirm new playable classes, every zone or a release date. Its value right now is the direction of the current story, rather than how many unannounced features we can imagine around the footage.

What should players do now?

There is no need to abandon the current key season or rewrite a raid calendar. Our suggestion is to note the dungeon pool, ask what your group wants to play and wait for the actual unlock schedule before committing holiday time or locking a roster. This article does not confirm an Eclipse release date.

For a different return to Azeroth, Forever’s announcement and Warcraft III’s new Forsaken Kingdom campaign are separate stories. Keeping them apart makes BlizzCon easier to follow: not every new Warcraft announcement belongs to the same update.
