Forever beta on Mac · players report freezes reaching beyond the game
Character creation works, but entering the world ends the session. Some Mac players report problems affecting more than the game itself.
For some Mac players, the Forever beta has begun with troubleshooting rather than exploration. Posts on Blizzard's forums dated September 17–18 describe successful character creation followed by a freeze or crash when entering the world. Some writers also report being returned to the macOS login screen or needing to restart the computer.
These are player reports. We have not reproduced the issue on our own hardware, and the available reports do not establish how many Mac players are affected.
Entering the world is a recurring point of failure
In a detailed report, zyoniq describes a stalled loading screen and a WindowServer crash. The author also offers an interpretation involving graphics processing. That is not a Blizzard-confirmed root cause.
In another thread, several players describe a similar transition from character creation to a crash. The recurring symptoms warrant attention, but similar symptoms can have different causes. We are not identifying one definitively broken graphics setting or claiming that every Mac is unable to play.
A workaround is not a released fix
The author of the first thread later reports being able to play after following another user's settings suggestion. That is a useful follow-up, not a universal repair guarantee. The initial suspicion and the later success should be read together rather than circulating the first post as a final diagnosis.
We are not offering a fix based on blindly copying settings. If the computer repeatedly crashes, repeatedly forcing the same failure is not the priority. Save unrelated work and, when necessary, wait for an updated game build or official guidance.
What makes a useful bug report?
A clear report helps distinguish superficially similar failures. Include:
- Your Mac model and processor, macOS version and game build number.
- Whether the failure occurs at sign-in, character creation or world entry.
- Whether only the game closes or the operating system returns to its login screen.
- Whether it is reproducible and what you changed before its behaviour changed.
Remove names, personal file paths and other unnecessary identifiers from public log excerpts. This checklist is our general editorial advice, not a Blizzard repair procedure.
The beta situation can change quickly
Blizzard's beta launch instructions are the starting point for installation and access questions. Activation of beta access is nevertheless a different issue from a crash while entering the world.
The original reports we checked contain no Blizzard-confirmed final resolution. That does not prove that guidance cannot appear elsewhere later: always check the date and current game build. For the wider game, read our large Forever overview.
