Forever’s beta gets a major update · time to rethink your build

Paladin loses a talent, Shaman gets a new progression path and Druid’s Wrath hits harder. Our guide explains the beta update and links the updated calculators.

Already planned your Forever character down to the last talent point? It is worth opening the tree again. Blizzard’s September 24 beta update changes when classes acquire important tools and how their levelling progression fits together. This is more than a set of damage adjustments: there is a removed talent, revised prerequisites and familiar abilities with new names. The official development notes arrived late on Thursday in UTC.

We have updated our Forever talent calculators alongside this overview. They help you plan choices, not simulate damage or predict which class will win at launch. A convincing beta build can change with the next update.

Paladin: a shorter route to a useful Holy Strike

Improved Holy Strike leaves the Holy tree. Its shorter, ten-second cooldown becomes part of Holy Strike itself. The reasoning is straightforward: making a central ability comfortable to use should not first require spending early talent points on it.

Holy Power now also affects Holy Strike’s critical strike chance, reaching a 15-percentage-point bonus at five ranks. Retribution’s Sacred Arbiter increases Holy Strike damage by 20%, while Twist of Light reduces Seal mana costs. Other bonuses move in the opposite direction: Vengeance stops at three stacks, and Two-Handed Weapon Specialization provides 2/4/6% increased damage.

Calling the whole class simply buffed or nerfed misses the useful question. This changes where points go, what an attack contributes and how several bonuses interact. Open the updated Paladin calculator and start with what you would do with the points you no longer need to spend.

Shaman: earlier cast-time help, later critical damage

Elemental Alacrity moves to row three and Elemental Fury to row six. That puts shorter casts within reach earlier, while extra critical damage sits deeper in the tree.

The new data gives the prerequisite chain as Elemental Alacrity → Call of Thunder → Elemental Fury. We updated the calculator’s arrows as well as the icons. Enhancement’s Rage of the Farseer no longer increases spell casting speed. Our Shaman calculator includes the revised positions and available rank descriptions.

This is why a final level-60 point allocation does not tell the whole story. Receiving tools in a different order can change many hours of play before the final talent becomes available.

Druid: stronger Wrath and two new names

Wrath receives roughly 50% more base damage. That is not a 50% increase to the Druid’s entire damage output. Blizzard also fixes critical-healing behaviour for Rejuvenation, Tranquility and Wild Growth.

In Feral, Mangle becomes Primal Bite and Primal Fury becomes Blood Frenzy. A missing old name therefore does not necessarily mean a removed talent. The updated Druid tree uses the new names and the revised Blood Frenzy icon.

Warrior: stronger Bloodthrill, a Protection source discrepancy

Bloodthrill’s trigger chance rises to 4/8/12/16/20% by rank. The talent description requires the enemy to be affected by your Rend. It triggers from main-hand melee attacks; the notes explicitly include Cleave and Heroic Strike. Slam’s base cooldown rises to 18 seconds, while Improved Slam reduces it according to talent rank.

For Protection, Blizzard announces Focused Rage on row five and Bastion on row six. There is a source discrepancy here: the community export of the September 24 beta client still has their previous positions. Our Warrior calculator follows the announced swap and displays a separate warning. We have not independently verified its implementation in game.

Mage, Hunter and the other classes

Fire Mage’s Wake of Fire now lasts 30 seconds and Hot Streak 20 seconds, leaving more time to prepare the next action. Arcane Missiles checks line of sight at the start of the channel instead of for every missile. Explore the Mage calculator.

Hunter’s Strider Kick provides a brief movement-speed increase. There are also fixes involving pets, Lone Wolf and Lacerating Strikes. The Hunter talent trees have their own calculator.

Priest, Rogue and Warlock changes in these notes largely concern ability behaviour and fixes. Not every bug fix means a rearranged talent tree. Their current trees are available too: Priest, Rogue and Warlock.

    A one-silver respec comes with a condition

Resetting talents costs one silver in the beta if you have not recently changed them. Another immediate reset costs more; the price returns to one silver after an hour. This is a temporary beta arrangement, not confirmed launch pricing.

We would compare two genuinely different plans in similar situations. Note when mana runs out, where you spend time waiting and whether you can help a party member. That often produces more useful feedback than a screenshot of one impressive critical hit.

Campfires and the interface get practical fixes

Waiting for a campfire benefit leaves more room to do other things. Editorial illustration, not a game screenshot.

Players can now cast and craft while waiting for their Campfire benefit without the previous issue that made them stand up. It is a small line in a long list, but awkward waiting becomes noticeable over a full evening.

The Cooldown Manager is available for testing on Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior and Warlock. It is disabled by default and does not yet support spell ranks. Controller support gains class-specific options, and Blizzard reports fixing a memory leak that gradually reduced performance for some players.

Known issues still include party changes moving players into a different world instance. A new build is not the same thing as a finished game. Keep the known-issues thread handy while testing.

    What changed in our calculators?

All 27 trees across the nine classes now use the licensed Talents Forever beta export instead of our September 14 demo snapshot. Names, rank descriptions, removals, icons and prerequisites have been refreshed. The announced Warrior swap is a separate, visibly labelled adjustment. Changes to spell damage do not turn into invented DPS predictions in the planner.

Old-version share links are not reinterpreted as allocations in the new trees. That prevents a removed talent from silently shifting points onto the wrong icons. Save and share a new build using the updated calculator.

For the wider context, our big Forever guide explains where these systems fit. The interesting question right now is not which class can be declared the winner. It is whether your character feels better to play after this update.
