Wrath of the Lich King · Tier 9 · Trial of the Crusader
Trial of the Crusader raid guide
5 boss-specific tactics, progression checklists and a documented change history from the original Wrath to Wrath Classic.
How to use this guide
Read the raid change history and the boss TL; DR before the detailed steps. Each card separates mandatory core tactics, role responsibilities and hard/heroic mechanics that change depending on the version.
The target version is level 80 Wrath. Classic level 60, Timewalking and the legacy scaling of later expansions do not change the tactics of this guide.
Trial of the Crusader in chronological Wrath progression
Five consecutive arena encounters without trash. Normal and heroic use the same core abilities, but heroic adds pressure, new restrictions, and the original attempt meter.

Trial of the Crusader: nerf and change history
The timeline separates intentional difficulty changes, release schedule, loot/catch-up changes, and actual bug fixes. Inaccurate pre/post figures are not filled with guesswork.
| Date | Documented change | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Patch 3.2 / 4/8/2009 | Trial of the Crusader unfolded in stages over five weeks. | The progression timeport was part of the original release. |
| Patch 3.2.2 | Heroic attempt and encounter bugs were fixed; heroic retained 50 company resource. | Not all changes were boss nerfs. |
| Wrath Classic 2023 | raid opened with one global schedule and lockout issues fixed. | The Classic implementation is separated from the 2009 weekly port. |
| Later legacy adjustments | Scaling and saltability fixes were made in later patches. | They are not part of the level 80 tactic. |
The boss card nerf sections use this raid level timeline and only raise differences relevant to the encounter.
